New Delhi: Banks are set to open on Sunday, September 27, 2026, giving customers an additional opportunity to complete important banking work before a proposed three-day nationwide bank strike.

The Ministry of Finance has announced that all Public Sector Banks (PSBs) and Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) will function normally on Sunday, September 27. The decision has been taken because a proposed nationwide bank strike is scheduled from September 28 to September 30.

Why Are Banks Opening on Sunday?

September 27 would normally be a Sunday bank holiday. However, the government has taken the decision to keep Public Sector Banks and Regional Rural Banks operational to reduce the impact of the proposed three-day bank strike.

Yes. State Bank of India (SBI) has confirmed that its branches will remain accessible on Sunday, September 27, 2026.

Customers who have important branch-related work may therefore use this additional working day before the proposed strike period.

What About Private Banks?

The government announcement specifically covers Public Sector Banks and Regional Rural Banks. Private-sector banks are not covered by this particular direction in the same way.

Therefore, customers of private banks should check their bank's individual branch advisory before visiting a branch on Sunday.

A three-day nationwide bank strike has been proposed from September 28 to September 30, 2026.
